"Análisis comparativo de las políticas antárticas entre Chile y el Reino Unido al año 2024"

Abstract

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar diferencias y semejanzas entre las políticas antárticas de Chile y el Reino Unido al año 2024, por medio de un enfoque cualitativo. Se recurrió a las categorías Intereses Económicos, Soberanía, Infraestructura y logística, Presencia y cooperación internacional e Investigación Científica para efectuar el análisis comparativo correspondiente. Se consideraron hechos históricos, acciones realizadas y rol fundamental del Sistema del Tratado Antártico como regulador de actividades en la Antártida. Los resultados revelaron semejanzas significativas, ambos países comparten un compromiso común por la preservación del medio ambiente antártico, desarrollando actividades de investigación científica como herramienta para consolidar su presencia en el continente, manteniéndose expectantes ante una futura posibilidad de ejercer soberanía en la Antártida. Cabe resaltar que tanto Chile como el Reino Unido mantienen reclamos territoriales sobre este continente. También se notó una diferencia en el aspecto económico, Chile aspira a convertirse en la principal puerta de ingreso a la Antártida, como primer agente logístico desde Punta Arenas. Asimismo, muestra gran interés en la explotación de recursos marinos e impulso del turismo antártico. La investigación proporcionó una comprensión detallada de lineamientos y acciones de Chile y el Reino Unido en el continente antártico, destacando la importancia de un equilibrio entre intereses nacionales y cooperación internacional. Facilitando una perspectiva sobre las políticas antárticas de ambos países en un territorio en el cual la ciencia, geopolítica, intereses y conservación del medioambiente guardan gran relación y se entrelazan para definir el presente y proyectar el futuro de la Antártida.

The present research had like objective identify differences and similarities between the Antarctic policies of Chile and the United Kingdom by 2024, through a qualitative approach. The categories Economic Interests, Sovereignty, Infrastructure and Logistics, Presence and International Cooperation, and Scientific Research were used to carry out the corresponding comparative analysis. Historical facts, actions carried out, and the fundamental role of the Antarctic Treaty System as a regulator of activities in Antarctica were considered. The results revealed significant similarities; both countries share a common commitment to preserving the Antarctic environment, developing scientific research activities as a tool to consolidate their presence on the continent, and remaining expectant of a future possibility of exercising sovereignty in Antarctica. Besides both Chile and the United Kingdom maintain territorial claims on this continent. A difference was also noted in the economic aspect; Chile aspires to become the main gateway to Antarctica, as the primary logistics agent from Punta Arenas. It also shows great interest in the exploitation of marine resources and the promotion of Antarctic tourism. The research provided a detailed understanding of the guidelines and actions of Chile and the United Kingdom on the Antarctic continent, highlighting the importance of a balance between national interests and international cooperation. It provided a perspective on the Antarctic policies of both countries in a territory in which science, geopolitics, interests and environmental conservation are closely related and intertwine to define the present and project the future of Antarctica.
